BBC, BEATS, Hackney and job contract… words enough to interest any creatively minded youngster in north London’s most exciting borough.
The Radio 1 Hackney Weekend will be staged, in partnership with Hackney council, on Hackney Marshes on 23 and 24 June 2012 – and Loving Dalston has been asked to help the BBC to find a “social media producer” (not quite sure – be patient): it should be someone who, in the words of BBC senior content producer Rory Connolly, “knows East London inside out and has established connections with the many creative projects that already happen in Hackney and the surrounding boroughs.
“They will provide an important link between these projects and the BBC activity. They should have great writing skills, the confidence to become the spokesperson for the campaigns online and if possible shooting and editing skills.”
The successful applicant would be offered a six-month paid contract in a content producer role.
A BBC spokesman adds: “We’ll be shining a light on the creativity of young East Londoners, giving them the chance to decide the look and feel of the Hackney Marshes site.”
Leona Lewis and Plan B will be among the established Cockney and other stars performing; unknown acts will also get a chance to play during the weekend. “Every single space on the line-up of the BBC Introducing stage,” says the spokesman, “will be filled by unsigned and undiscovered East London musicians and acts.”
