WHAT SORT of money does a job pay at the town hall, pictured, in Hackney? Loving Dalston is digging out the answers, as it does every year. It has already revealed the council’s continuing staff cuts, for which it paid out £2.2 million.
Yet somehow the number of staff earning more than £50,000 a year barely changes. Last year 343 pulled in £50K-plus — for 2012-13 the number has risen slightly, to 358.
Of those, 65 are earning more than £70,000 at a time when Members of Parliament have been nervously contemplating the prospect of a rise on their official £66,396 a year — nervously, because they fear it will enrage voters.
Top whack for Hackney council officers is about £200,000. Loving Dalston is investigating and aims to give more details tomorrow.
