THE HOPED-FOR huge numbers did not materialise but a Vintage Midnight Walk through Hackney and the City raised £20,000 for two East End hospices.

Rather than 1,000 women stepping out in their 1940s best, about 150 men and women draped themselves in feather boas and other of wartime fashion markers to set out from the Kingsland Shopping Centre in Dalston at midnight and into the unpromising weather of the morning of  Sunday 11 September 2011.

The event, the second, after an amble around London Docklands, in June, was organised by Richard House Children’s Hospice, based in Beckton, and St Joseph’s Hospice, Hackney, which is already talking of another vintage walk inSeptember next year.

Get ready now: go on another rummage through Grannnie’s glad rags.
