Jermain Jackman: talent and work

HACKNEY IS rich with young talent. But how to find it? The Hackney Empire is utilising the talent-contest method. Why not it works for worldwide hit TV shows?

If you think you are a future star, be at the grand Mare Street theatre next month to brave the critical audience of the Empire 2 for the contest, Alter Ego, an oft-used Latin phrase meaning “other self… alternative personality”.

If your other self is capable of putting in the practice, study, unsocial hours and… well, hard work of, say, Jermain Jackman, a previous singer-winner of Alter Ego, log on to the contest site and raise your rehearsal rate.

Would-be winners who graduate from the first auditions will go on to perform on the Empire’s mainstage in the Alter Ego finals on Friday 30 January 2014 to be judged by the men of Mandem on the Wall (this is not a Latin phrase), who will also perform at the event.
