CHRISTMAS IS a time of giving and here’s an easy way to give a little yet get a lot of satisfaction.

Richard House Children’s Hospice in Newham is asking you to donate an hour of your salary to its #One Hour Campaign.

Richard House boss Chris Baker said: “When a child is diagnosed with a life-limiting condition, the whole family is thrown into turmoil. “We are here to support them through these difficult times, and to continue to do so even after their child has died.”

Think of those loaded words as you read this from the camp[aign press release:

Myles, two, is a frequent visitor to Richard House, for his short-gut syndrome, resulting in failure to digest food properly. He is fed through a line surgically placed into his heart, which needs constant supervision.

Myles’s daddy, Jerry During, said: “A common misconception is that hospices are places only for children nearing death.

“ I would say hospices as amazing as Richard House provide children and families with a new lease of life. There are like a brilliant extended family member, offering families and children joy, happiness…

“Richard House offers essential support for our family, a place where Myles is included in everyday fun childhood activities and quality time, both with Myles and for us as parents together when he has overnight care.”

Most of the East London charity’s funding comes from donations and this year it needs to raise £3 million to continue looking after seriously ill children and their families.

Of course, there is any number of huge charities needing financial help, and all of them worthy. The simplicity of the #One Hour Campaign might appeal to you. Just press this link, which also takes care of the Gift Aid aspect, effectively increasing your donation.
