THREE PARKED VEHICLES WERE DAMAGED when a four-wheel-drive SUV whacked them as it rolled erratically and noisily along Colvestone Crescent, Dalston E8, late last night. Residents were alarmed as the sports utility vehicle emitted a high-pitched screeching sound before crunching to a halt near St Mark’s church, a front wheel visibly skew-whiff.
A cyclist passing by, her dog in the bike’s wicker-basket as she headed home, was frightened for her safety but stopped to check on the condition of the middle-aged man at the wheel.
He shouted that he was all right. Then the scream-like noise, perhaps from a jammed handbrake, resumed its raging as he set off again in the SUV, turning it into St Mark’s Rise. Despite the damaged front wheel, he somehow negotiated his way up the narrow street, and headed towards Crossways.
The woman phoned the police with the vehicle’s numberplate. Hackney police told Loving Dalston that investigations were continuing.
