No 82 Dalston Lane, London E8 3AH, its Georgian origins hidden below centuries of commercial abuse, is due to open in time for Valentine’s Day, Monday 14 Feb 2011 — despite its neglected appearance.
Dr Sunny Karir, of the company that is developing Avo, told Loving Dalston: “The builders have been working top-down… that’s probably why, from the front ground doors, it looks like a building site.”

Every room would offer luxury toiletries, padded slippers, Egyptian-cotton bed linen, dressing gown, hairdryer, flat-screen TV and gratis DVD selection. Rates would start at £79 a night, excluding breakfast.
Dr Karir, an Oxford graduate who was raised in the area, said: “With the Olympics coming and Dalston getting trendier by the minute we thought it was the right time to convert our shop into a boutique hotel, a small independently run hotel with an eye to a luxury feel and an understated elegance.”
She said that Avo aimed to recruit locally and source locally wherever possible. She did not reply when asked whether Avo would have an alcohol licence.
Avo is akin to “welcome” in some North Indian languages.
