Buskers blowing in the Vortex

How many Cs must a man miss before you call him a busker? The answer’s in E8

ONE OF the world’s top jazz clubs is to host a festival for London’s buskers in its downstairs bar.
Buskers’ Day will be held on Sunday 24 July 2010 in Downstairs @ The Vortex, below the club in Gillet Square, Dalston. In the grand tradition of street music, the show will be free, although the “Sorry, I’ve no change on me” excuse will not make you popular.
The event will run from 3pm to 8pm. Jugglers and other street artists are also being invited to perform.
The Vortex, in 11 Gillet Square, Dalston N16 8AZ, is not charging the festival for the use of the venue from 3pm to 8pm; arts group Ideas Tap is funding the event.

Oli Kasteel-Hare, of organiser Sound Advice UK, a collective that supports live music, says: “Buskers bring something to London that is raw and precious. They make our streets a happier place — they deserve celebration.”
